Signs of Child Abuse

The Child:

  • Shows sudden changes in behavior or school performance
  • Has not received help for physical or medical problems brought to the parents' attention
  • Is always watchful, as though preparing for something bad to happen
  • Lacks adult supervision
  • Is overly compliant, passive, or withdrawn
  • Comes to school or other activities early, stays late, and does not want to go home

The Parent:

  • Shows little concern for the child
  • Denies the existence of—or blames the child for—the child's problems in school or at home
  • Asks teachers or other caregivers to use harsh physical discipline if the child misbehaves
  • Sees the child as entirely bad, worthless, or burdensome
  • Demands a level of physical or academic performance the child cannot achieve
  • Looks primarily to the child for care, attention, and satisfaction of emotional needs

The Parent and Child:

  • Rarely touch or look at each other
  • Consider their relationship entirely negative
  • State that they do not like each other
If any of these signs are shown in a friend or anyone you know it should be reported to a higher authority immediately. Not only would you be reporting s crime, but can also be saving someones life.

Self-Assessment

The main cause of my blog is to raise awareness to child abuse. I don’t believe many people know too much about the child abuse that goes around not only across the world, but also in their own neighbor’s hood. I believe that educating people and helping raise awareness can help people and children find a solution to this problem. I do believe that my research and analysis is contributing to the solution because just from having my friends read my blogs I feel opens their eyes to a new light. They have become aware of the many forms or child abuse and the statistics. I feel like my blogs have touched some of them to want to make a change and help towards preventing child abuse sometime in the near future. I think new media is very helpful in openly addressing the problem of child abuse and making my ideas more accessible to others. Anyone can have access to read my blogs because of blogger.com, no matter where they are from. Millions of people use that website and at anytime can read my posting. Also if you were to type in “child abuse” in Google you would be able to see find my blog (although it may not be in the first couple of pages in your searches). I think I can improve my blog by making it more presentable and more of an eye-catcher. This is an improvement that I plan on improving sometime in the near future. This experience and making this blog on this social problem is a great experience. Although sometimes it is very difficult to read certain stories on how some children were abused and tortured, it has made me a strong person. It also has helped me become more passionate about raising awareness and helping come up with a solution to help these children.
